Portfolio strategy software that ties every objective to funded work.
Set objectives and key results where the delivery work already lives, link the projects and portfolios funded to deliver them, and give leadership one view of both.
Strategy is set once a year. The questions about it arrive every week.
These are the questions a portfolio leader is judged on. In most organizations they still get answered with a slide deck, a spreadsheet, and a lot of email.
Which funded work actually serves each objective?
The objectives live in the offsite deck. The projects live in a delivery tool. Nothing on either side points at the other.
Trace work to objectivesWhere is strategy unfunded, or spend unaligned?
A strategic driver left as TBD, or an objective nobody funded, looks exactly like everything else on the list.
Find the gapsWhich projects are tied to the growth objective? Need it before Thursday.
Checking with each PM, will send a list.
Partner Onboarding, I think? Not sure about analytics.
When priorities shift, what does it touch?
The board changes direction, and the first week goes to working out which projects were connected to the old priority.
See what is connectedCan leadership see progress without a deck?
Every review restarts the same exercise: pull status from the projects, restate it against the objectives, and hope nothing moved since.
Share one live viewOpen any objective and see the work funded behind it.
Attach the projects and portfolios doing the work to the objective they serve. Each one carries its type, health, and percent complete, and the objective shows on the project itself, so the case for the work travels with the work.
- No separate mapping spreadsheet to keep in sync.
- The same link is visible from the objective and from the project.
Projects and portfolios both link
Attach a single project or a whole portfolio, at whichever level the work is actually managed.
Visible from the project side
Anyone opening the project sees the objective it contributes to, not just its own schedule and tasks.
Status comes from the work
Health and percent complete on each linked item are the values the project team already maintains.
Objectives and key results that leadership can open themselves.
Each objective carries an owner, a time period, and the key results that define success, so it means the same thing to the sponsor, the PMO, and the board. The record the PMO maintains is the one leadership reads, and the same data feeds portfolio reporting. Initiatives proposed through demand and intake can be linked to an objective from day one.
Owner and time period
Every objective has a named owner and a defined period, so accountability is never ambiguous.
Numbers, percentages, or milestones
Set each key result as the kind of target it really is, with current value shown against target.
Currency key results
Track a revenue or cost target as a key result, right alongside the milestones and percentages.
| Key result | Current | Target | Progress | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Launch in 2 new regions | 1 | 2 | 50% | On track |
| New-region revenue | $1.1M | $3.0M | 37% | On track |
| Onboarding satisfaction | 84 | 90 | 93% | On track |
| Sign off partner agreements | Done | Done | 100% | Done |
Strategy without investment. Investment without strategy.
Defining an objective is easy. Funding the work behind it is harder, and the reverse happens too: projects keep running long after the priority that justified them has moved on.
Both show up in Completix. Whether to fund, retire, relink, or reassign stays a decision for your review, not the system.
An objective with nothing behind it
Open the objective and its linked work is empty. It no longer blends in with objectives that have funded delivery behind them.
A project with no objective
Because every project shows the objective it contributes to, one with nothing there is just as easy to spot in review.
The board changes direction. The question is what it touches.
When priority moves from growth to cost reduction, or an objective is dropped mid-year, open the objective and every linked project and portfolio is already there, each with its own health. For a bigger shift, scenario planning lets you model the change before committing to it.
Reassign, unlink, or retire, on your terms
Completix shows the connections. Deciding what to do about a deprioritized objective is a human call, not an automated reshuffle.
Funding changes go through the gate
A change to a linked project's funding is reviewed at the gate under your governance policy. Nothing is released or reprioritized automatically.
One objective. The whole portfolio behind it.
Portfolio Strategy answers why the work exists. The rest of Completix answers the other questions a PMO is asked, on the same linked data.
Portfolio strategy software, common questions
What is portfolio strategy software?
Portfolio strategy software connects an organization's strategic objectives to the projects and portfolios funded to deliver them, so investment decisions can be evaluated against strategic intent instead of in isolation. It is sometimes called strategic portfolio management.
How is this different from an OKR tool?
Dedicated OKR tools typically track objectives without a view of the projects, budgets, or capacity behind them. Completix holds the objective and the funded delivery work on the same platform, so an objective shows the projects and portfolios attached to it, with their health and percent complete.
How is Portfolio Strategy different from Portfolio Management?
Portfolio Strategy answers why the work is being done: objectives, key results, and what is funded to deliver them. Portfolio Management answers how the portfolio is performing day to day. They share the same data, but they answer different questions.
Can we see projects that don't support any strategic objective?
Yes. Each project shows the objective it contributes to, so a project with no objective attached is as visible as an objective with nothing linked behind it.
What happens to linked work when a priority changes?
Nothing changes automatically. Opening the objective shows every project and portfolio linked to it, with its own health and status, so your team can decide what to reassign, unlink, or retire.
Can we still use our existing OKR tool?
Yes. Organizations running OKRs elsewhere can mirror the objectives they want visible against delivery in Completix, or connect them through the Completix customization service.
