Gating is Process and Process is Consistency

1

What is Gating

A project gate is a key decision and control point that occurs before the next major milestone or deliverable (e.g., business case) or a new project phase (e.g., implementation) begins. The gate represents a logical point at which executive “gatekeepers” can determine whether and how to proceed.

2

Gating is the PMO best friend

Gating is Process. Process is Consistency.
The PMO is in charge of creating procedures and best practices to help operations go smoothly, complete on time, and result in quality and consistent deliverables. Their focus is on the successful completion of projects and monitoring the impact and effectiveness of the procedures they outline. When the PMO establishes the proper process with the proper templates to follow, all projects are expected to yield the same results consistently.

All documents have exactly the same format and thus very familiar with everyone in the organization. New employees can quickly and easily understand what needs to be done and how, without ambiguity.
PMOs can help prevent decision paralysis and ensure that teams have the information they need to best complete their projects and a Gating or Phased approach is a key component to success.

Completix makes gating easy

Completix lets you create multiple process' templates that you can use depending on the project you are delivering. For example, a small project may only need a couple of gates, while a big one may require several. For each project, you can select the template that is appropriate for your needs.

For each phase, the deliverables can be a simple checklist or you can attach a document template that you can use to provide your artifact. When all deliverables have been completed, simply start the approval process to move on to the next phase.
All the artifacts that you have attached will also be visible in the Smart Repository, so you can manage all of your documents from a single location.
